World Aquatics World Cup #3 – Astana

October 15-17, 2026 Astana, Kazakhstan SCM (25 meters) Meet Central Results Entries How to Watch Recaps: Day 1 Finals

Day 2 of the final world cup stop saw several more athletes asserted their credentials for triple crowns tonight.

Egor Kornev claimed lane 4 for the men’s 50 free final tonight, clocking 20.83 as one of only two swimmers under 21 seconds. The other was an Australian, but it was Isaac Cooper (20.98) instead of Cam McEvoy, who will swim out of lane 1 after placing 7th in 21.60.

McEvoy has won the 50 free on both stops of the tour so far, setting new World Cup and Oceanian records of 20.22 and 20.13. He won the 100 free last night in 45.11, a new lifetime best, and split 21.15 at the halfway point so clearly has more in the tank for the 50 free tonight.

Gleb Kovalenya hacked four tenths off his Kazakh record to give the home crowd something to cheer, placing 5th this morning in 21.31.

Roos Vanotterdijk (58.65) and European record holder Marrit Steenbergen (59.92) will do battle again in the women’s 100 IM, after both set national records last week. Steenbergen clocked 56.18 to Vanotterdijk’s 56.68, and is gunning for another triple crown after taking one in the 50 back last night.

Steenbergen is the top seed in the 50 free as well after clocking 23.73 ahead of Kasia Wasick‘s 23.93. Having busted Siobhan Haughey‘s potential crown in the 200 free last night, Steenbergen could do the same to Wasick here, especially so given that the Polish swimmer is coming off a 1500 free yesterday where she placed 6th in 18:38.61.

Luke Barr took on the 200 breast and 100 IM, both events in which he is in the hunt for a triple crown. He placed third in both events this morning, clocking 2:05.64 in the former to trail world record holder Caspar Corbeau (2:05.49) and former world record holder Kirill Prigoda (2:04.98).

The 100 IM looks to be a great race this evening, with the top six swimmers separated by two tenths of a second. Alberto Razzetti (52.87) led the way, closely followed by Kliment Kolesnikov (52.88), Barr (52.92), Finlay Knox (52.97), Ivan Girev (53.05) and 200 IM champion Shaine Casas (53.06).

    Other Event Highlights:

Pieter Coetze won the men’s 100 back yesterday in one of the fastest swims ever, and is the top seed in the 200 back today in 1:52.86. The top ten are separated by less than three-quarters of a second, with Shaine Casas (1:52.99) and European medalist Jan Cejka (1:53.00) close behind the South African. Evgeniia Chukinova took second behind Mona McSharry in the 100 breast yesterday, but tops the 200 breast field ahead of her today in 2:19.31. McSharry is three seconds back in 2:22.18 Vanotterdijk (56.74) will double up her 100 IM with the 100 fly, and can claim her second triple crown after doing so in the women’s 50 fly yesterday. She was one of only two women under 57 seconds alongside Yu Yiting (56.99), and set a Belgian record of 55.20 last week. Chen Juner (50.88), who had triple crown opportunity in the 200 fly snatched away by a fantastic final length by So Ogota last night, can complete the job in the 100 fly today after progressing second-fastest into the final. Evgenii Shilovski (50.77) is the top seed, with Andrei Minakov (51.06) and Ogota (51.14) also in the mix tonight.
