First Alert Weather: Cool, cloudy start with sunshine later, wet and windy tomorrow, and first flakes possible Saturday morning

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Some big changes are in our weather forecast over the next three days… But we remain Green on the Threat Tracker as no BIG impacts are expected. Just nasty weather at times. Starting off the morning with some stubborn cloud cover over WNY due to a temperature inversion and low level moisture. There are some drizzly spots as well, but the weather will improve this afternoon with partly cloudy skies as highs reach the mid and upper 50s. Overall a decent, cool fall day. Cannot say the same about tomorrow.

Wind will pick up out of the southwest overnight as a strengthening low pressure system makes its way up towards the northeast. This will spark up some showers around midnight, then heavier showers with perhaps a few rumbles of thunder very early in the morning. More showers with a chance of thunder after sunrise as winds start to gust up to 35 MPH, with areas between Buffalo and the Niagara Frontier seeing up to 40 MPH. That southwesterly flow will also bring in much warmer temperatures, with highs near 70 in the MID MORNING and a very muggy feel to the air. More rounds of showers throughout the morning as the wind stays strong, then less showery and more drizzly for the afternoon… Before a cold front causes more showers in the evening and vastly drops our temperatures.

Saturday morning will be cold enough for some wet snowflakes to mix with rain showers in the higher elevations to the south. Little to no accumulation expected, at most a thin slushy layer on vegetation. Rest of the region including Rochester will only see rain showers with the cold northerly breeze. Gusts will be down some at 25 MPH then calm as the day goes on, with clear skies in the afternoon as highs reach only the upper 40s. So overall, a nice crisp middle of the weekend.

Sunday starts off chilly in the mid 30s, with some patchy frost possible so long as the wind gets calm enough. We’ll peak in the upper 50s with sunny skies, then temperatures rebound into the mid 60s Monday through Thursday as that sunshine sticks around. Just gotta get through the next two days and then better weather will be here!

Stay tuned for updates on the forecast.
