While Sebastian Stan may be close to his Captain America co-star Chris Evans, he didn’t feel comfortable asking the Materialists actor for an unusual favor.
In an October 2026 interview with GQ, wherein he discussed his most notable films, Stan noted that his role as Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee in the 2022 miniseries, Pam & Tommy, called for him to have a conversation with his character’s genitals, voiced by Jason Mantzoukas. He explained that the idea came from part of Lee’s 2004 book, Tommyland, wherein he wrote scenes depicting “conversations with his penis.” Stan also noted that the scene was done completely practically with the help of puppeteers.
According to Stan, he was requested to ask Evans to provide the voice for the NSFW role.
“I remember us sitting there discussing who was gonna voice the penis. And somebody had said, ‘Why don’t you call Chris Evans? You guys are friends.’ And I was like, ‘I’m not calling Chris Evans to voice this penis,'” said Stan.
Stan said that while including Evans’ voice in the scene “probably could have been a really good moment,” he doubted he would have agreed to do it.
Sebastian Stan Discussed the Infamous Scene in a 2022 Interview
In a 2022 interview alongside Jennifer Aniston for Variety’s Actors on Actors, Stan shared some insight into filming the infamous Pam and Tommy scene. He said he chose not to think about the scene prior to filming it.
“I found that the less I thought about it, the better, because the train of thought starts to go into panic mode. But it was a tricky scene to shoot ’cause when we were shooting it, we didn’t know if it was really gonna work, if it was gonna be too much or not,” said Stan.
In addition, he noted that the moment was quite complicated to shoot.
“There were components, manual and prosthetics and things and people with wires sort of plugging things into sockets,” recalled Thunderbolts* star.
Stan also said the show’s writers intended for the scene to be “a creative way” of having Lee “confess his love” for his third wife, Pamela Anderson, whom he divorced in 1998 after three years of marriage.
