PISMO BEACH, Calif. (KEYT) - From chowder and clams to world-class sand art and local wine, Pismo Beach is packed with events this fall that showcase the best of the Central Coast.
The season kicks off October 17th and 18th with the 80th Annual Pismo Beach Clam Festival. The milestone event celebrates eight decades of coastal heritage with a lively community parade, the popular Clam Chowder Cook-Off, live music, and family-friendly activities, including the Kids Clam Rescue.
Emma Rhoads with TJA Advertising says it's a chance for locals and visitors alike to shell-ebrate one of Pismo Beach's longest-running tradition.
"It's just amazing to watch how a festival transforms over 80 years from, you know, the history and the origin in Pismo of everyone clamming to, 'OK, they're not really around anymore, but we've got a lot of clam chowder,' right into, 'OK, wow, we have clams back after 30 years not being around.' They've been back for four or five years, a whole new celebration."
After a weekend of clams and coastal fun, the spotlight shifts from the shoreline to the vineyard on October 24th with the SLO Coast Wine Social: Fall Pours & Vinyl. The event features winemakers from 15 local wineries pouring seasonal selections while sharing stories behind their wines. Guests can enjoy vineyard views, artisan food available for purchase, and a live vinyl DJ set from Vinylistics 805. Attendees will also receive $15 off a SLO Coast Tasting Pass, giving them even more reasons to keep the good times flowing.
Then, as fall rolls into November, Pismo Beach becomes a canvas for creativity during the Pismo Beach Sand Art Festival, running November 7th through 9th. Eleven internationally recognized sand artists will transform the shoreline into a temporary outdoor gallery, crafting stunning murals and sculptures that evolve throughout the day before eventually washing away with the tide.
Whether you're in the mood for clam-tastic family fun, a toast to the Central Coast's wine country, or breathtaking beach art, Pismo Beach has something brewing this fall. From chowder to chardonnay to castles in the sand, the season is shaping up to be one shore thing.
