Valparaiso, Pennington, Campbell, Conrad, Bueno Earn FCS Football Awards (Week 6)

Opta Analyst’s FCS football coverage includes weekly national player and team honors during the regular season, leading into Stats Perform’s season-ending awards, now in their 40th year.

Northern Arizona’s Ty Pennington, Wofford’s Eli Campbell, Indiana State’s Spencer Conrad and Stony Brook’s Khalid Bueno were selected on Monday as the Stats Perform FCS National Players of the Week for Week 6 college football games.

In addition, the Valparaiso Beacons were named the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week.

Following are this week’s five honorees plus honorable mention selections:

FCS National Offensive Player of the Week

Ty Pennington, Northern Arizona, QB, Sr., 6-2, 220

Pennington matched his jersey number and set a career high by accounting for six touchdowns in Northern Arizona’s 49-44 victory over second-ranked Montana. He passed for 322 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 52 yards and four touchdowns, and caught a 7-yard touchdown reception. He was the first Big Sky player to score in all three ways since NAU’s Angel Flores in 2023.

Honorable Mention: Kaden Anderson, QB, Tarleton State; Cam Bulluck, WR, Tennessee State; Armand Burris, WR, Florida A&M; Jaxton Santiago, WR, Yale; Jayden Sauray, QB, Delaware State

FCS National Defensive Player of the Week

Eli Campbell, Wofford, DB, Sr., 5-11, 190

Campbell’s two interceptions and fumble recovery helped Wofford post its first shutout win since 2016, 16-0 at Elon. Each takeaway occurred in Elon territory, including a 35-yard interception return to the 4 to set up his Southern Conference squad for a second-quarter field goal. He also had seven tackles, with five of them limiting the Phoenix to four yards or less.

Honorable Mention: Herman Brister III, S, Southern; TJ Neal, DB, UTRGV; J. Augustus Olidge, DB, Howard; Elijah Rainer, LB, William & Mary; Ma’Hkai Wilson, LB, Stonehill; Steve Zayachkowsky, LB, Charleston Southern

FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week

    Spencer Conrad, Indiana State, P, R-So., 5-11, 205

Conrad had an incredible string of punts while averaging an FCS season-high 55.0 yards over eight kicks in Indiana State’s 57-24 loss to Youngstown State in the MVFC. His first five punts traveled 67, 61, 67 (downed at the YSU 1), 59 and 57 yards. Two of his final three punts went for fair catches. He ranks second nationally in punting average (46.6).

Honorable Mention: Carter Brown, PK, Tennessee Tech; Cade Cox, P, Eastern Illinois; Isiah Davis, DB, Florida A&M; Lindsey Graves, KR, Northern Arizona; Christian James, PR, Norfolk State; Jude Kelley, PK, Chattanooga; Mason Lindberg, PK, Idaho State; Devin Orr, PK, Eastern Kentucky; Andrew Price, LB, Northern Iowa; Hakeem Watters, PR/RB, Charleston Southern

FCS National Freshman Player of the Week

Khalid Bueno, Stony Brook, DE, R-Fr., 6-3, 215

The FCS leader in sacks and tackles for loss was at it again in fueling Stony Brook to a 31-24 win at Towson in CAA Football. He finished with 4.5 TFLs and 3.0 sacks while being a part of seven plays that dropped Towson ball carriers behind the line of scrimmage. He had eight overall tackles and three QB hurries that resulted in incompletions, and he forced a fumble. He has 16 TFLs and 10.5 sacks this season.

Honorable Mention: Jacob Davis, QB, Towson; Davian Humphrey, LB, Eastern Illinois; Sam Manna, RB, Butler; Nick Peipert, QB, St. Thomas; Li’Darius Pryor, RB, Jackson State; Terry Radford, LB, North Carolina A&T; Davon Smith Jr., RB, Central Connecticut State

FCS National Team of the Week

Valparaiso Beacons (21-13 win over Drake)

Valpo handed three-time defending champion Drake just the third loss in its last 30 Pioneer Football League games. The Beacons forced six turnovers, with defensive backs Mark Johnson and Nic Lendino intercepting two passes each. Quarterback Rowan Keefe passed for two touchdowns and rushed for one. Valpo (3-3, 2-1), under second-year coach Andy Waddle, has a winning league record for the first time since 2022.

Honorable Mention: ETSU (34-16 win at The Citadel); Grambling State (45-38 win over Jackson State); Northern Iowa (24-17 win over North Dakota); Stonehill (28-7 win at Sacred Heart); Tarleton State (40-32 win at Austin Peay)
