Catherine Debrunner is back on top of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon podium — and continues to be on top of the world.
The fierce Swiss wheelchair racer, who won the race in 2024, just soared to victory at the 2026 competition, unofficially shattering her own world record in the process.
Debrunner set the world record in 2023 when she finished the Berlin Marathon in 1 hour, 34 minutes and 16 seconds.
Debrunner has now won 12 major marathons, including in her U.S. debut in Chicago in 2023 and again in 2024.
The victory comes after she finished runner-up at the 2026 Boston Marathon earlier this year before capturing her fourth London Marathon title.
Debrunner’s victory came as defending Chicago women’s wheelchair champion Susannah Scaroni took the 2026 race off to welcome her first child.
Debrunner finished well ahead of a strong group of contenders, many of whom have won the division since 2015, including nine-time champion Tatyana McFadden and two-time champion Manuela Schär.
