Richard Marx Helps Country Singer Justin Fabus Make His Comeback After a Terrifying Health Crisis

Country singer-songwriter Justin Fabus is making a comeback after a mysterious illness and severe depression left him hospitalized for more than two weeks, forcing him to postpone a planned European tour. Now, he’s returning with a new song co-written by Grammy-winning songwriter Richard Marx.

Titled “Anywhere You Wanna Go,” the new single, written by Richard Marx and Vertical Horizon frontman Matt Scannell, is expected before the end of 2026. Marx previously co-wrote “Somebody Like You” for Fabus’ 2020 album Shelter From The Storm.

Fabus’ return to music comes after a difficult year that kept him off the stage for months and forced him to postpone his planned European tour until 2027.

In January 2026, Fabus woke up with a mysterious allergic reaction and was prescribed prednisone. According to his announcement, after taking the medication for nearly 40 days, he experienced severe side effects that affected his cortisol levels and triggered debilitating depression.

He lost 30 pounds, struggled to eat and sleep, and spent more than 15 days in the hospital. The physical and mental effects continued for months, forcing him to postpone his planned European tour until 2027.

“I thought I was dying, but now that I’m back on my feet again, I feel like I’ve been given a second chance at life thanks to God and my family for helping me get through,” Fabus said. “When you’re at your darkest, I promise you there is light closer than you think.”

A former CMA Emerging Artist, Fabus has shared stages with Trace Adkins, New Kids on the Block, Debbie Gibson and Nick Carter. His country version of NKOTB’s “2 in the Morning” caught Donnie Wahlberg’s attention in 2019, earning him an opening spot on the band’s Mixtape arena tour in Pittsburgh.

His 2020 album Shelter From The Storm reached No. 25 on the iTunes Top 200 Country Albums chart, followed by his 2021 EP The Aftermath, which peaked at No. 2. His 2026 single “Moment I Knew,” recorded with Niall Horan guitarist Jake Curran, became an Apple Music Hits single.

“I still have a lot left in the tank,” Fabus said. “I still have a lot of songs to write and shows to play.”
