Outbound lanes on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) in Oak Park were shut down early Friday morning for a possible shooting investigation, with photos and video from the scene showing multiple police vehicles lining the roadway and officers canvassing the lanes.
NBC Chicago traffic reporter Kye Martin said the incident started about 2:40 a.m. As of 5:30 a.m., troopers could be seen walking in all lanes between Austin and Harlem as traffic backed up.
“It’s clear that officers are canvassing all lanes of the outbound Ike, looking for evidence of some sort,” Martin said.
Martin recommended drivers exit the expressway at Central.
Video captured at the scene showed at least six police vehicles parked across the expressway, with tow trucks close behind. As many as nine troopers carrying flashlights could be seen walking across all lanes.
The Illinois State Police did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for information.
Reports of a shooting shut down the same area on the Eisenhower Expressway Thursday afternoon, with police blocking several lanes of I-290 near Harlem Avenue.
