In a series of never-ending game adaptations in the works, it appears that Hollywood has turned its head to yet another video game IP – CD Projekt Red’s critically acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077.
As reported by Deadline, Paramount Pictures is the studio that has been chosen to work on a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film set in the game’s dystopian universe.
Following Paramount’s growing number of video game adaptations, which includes three Sonic the Hedgehog movies since 2020, a Halo TV series developed for Paramount+ and the upcoming Street Fighter adaptation that’s being released 16 October, this new project makes sense for the studio.
And considering other dystopian game adaptations like HBO’s The Last of Us and Amazon Prime’s Fallout have been incredibly successful, it’s no wonder Paramount wants to capitalise on the genre.
However, this adaptation also makes sense for CD Projekt Red too, after The Witcher and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series on Netflix surged in popularity.
On the upcoming project, co-CEO of CD Projekt Red, Michał Nowakowski, had this to say: "We’re excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time."
But alongside the huge studio attached, Deadline also reported that the producer of Transformers and G.I. Joe, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, will be producing the film with CD Projekt Red.
According to CD Projekt Red themselves, as of July 2026 Cyberpunk 2077 has sold a whopping 40 million copies, making the game one of the best-selling video games of all time.

Especially in light of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an anime set in the same universe, continuing its successful run with a renewed season 2 which will be released on Netflix on 20 October.
Who will be the on-screen talent and director of Cyberpunk 2077 is unknown, and we may not find out for quite a while considering Paramount’s already busy slate as a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog is due to be released in 2027.
The studio is also working on a Call of Duty adaptation, with Peter Berg directing the film and co-writing the screenplay with Taylor Sheridan. The new addition of Cyberpunk 2077 to the roster seems to be just another step in the studio’s takeover of game adaptations.
