Eight years after her sitcom reboot was canceled, Roseanne Barr is headed back to the small screen. Page Six recently revealed that the controversial comedian filmed an eight-episode series in secret.
So what does Barr have in store? The actress recently stole the media spotlight again after a social media feud with her former on-screen son, Michael Fishman. And while the controversy over her 2018 tweets has resurfaced, now it looks like Barr has something new to talk about, telling Page Six about her soon-to-be-released sitcom, Meemaw.

“It’s every bit as revolutionary as The Roseanne Show, if not more, and my work has improved with time.” She continued, “I want everybody who disagrees in a family to sit in the same room and just laugh and go, ‘Yeah, maybe I was an a**hole that time. Well, you were an a**hole this time. Oh, we’re all a**holes. Let’s get a beer.’”
According to Page Six, the comedian is yet again the matriarch of the family. But instead of the Midwest Conners, her new on-screen brood is a “mixed-race family of preppers in Texas.” The show also features The Sopranos’ actress Drea de Matteo (as Barr’s daughter), Randy Quaid (as Barr’s husband), Omar Gooding (as Barr’s son-in-law), and Doug Jones. Jon Lovitz, Tony Hinchcliffe (as Satan), and Kim Congdon guest star.
Along with the adult cast members, Meemaw also stars Indy Bugg, an Insta-famous tween, as Barr’s granddaughter. The Roseanne celeb shared how a famous friend helped her find her new star: “Mo’Nique calls up, ‘Check this girl out. She not only looks like you, but acts just like you, too.’ She was only 12 and I about fell over that I was able to get her. She’s such a star. You’ll see it in the first episode, in her first scene.”
Following her abrupt eviction from the Roseanne reboot, Barr started writing a new series. In 2025, she told Variety that it is “a cross between The Roseanne Show and The Sopranos” and follows a rural Alabama farmer who is “saving the United States from drug gangs and China.” The series was never made, but she later teamed up with Adam Sandler and Allen Covert to write Meemaw, or, as she calls it, a “semi-autobiographical series about a woman who hails from a very liberal East Coast Jewish family” who ends up in Texas.
The show quietly started production in 2025. While Barr was able to fund a fully union production, she didn’t get any money from one local source. When asked if billionaire (sometimes trillionaire) Elon Musk offered to help with her project, Barr replied, “He wouldn’t call me back. Like, ‘Can I get some assistance over here, man? I got fired for a text that was up for two hours that nobody saw.’”
As of now, there is no information on when Meemaw will premiere or which network/streaming service will carry the new show.
