The husband of a Royal Family doctor has been accused of murdering his wife. According to the Eastern Daily Press, King’s Lynn Crown Court heard today that Mark Cain allegedly killed his wife, Hannah Cain, by “striking her on the head” with an axe and then strangling her.

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, Mark was charged with murdering Hannah after she was found dead at their home near King Charles’ Sandringham estate on Sunday. During the preliminary hearing, prosecutor Steven Ball said that police arrived on the scene after a report of a burglary.

Mark, whom Ball described as a “previously good character,” claimed that he confronted a burglar after he was found with cuts on his face. Hannah, who worked under the name Dr. Hannah Terry, was reported dead from blunt force trauma to the head, with injuries on her neck.

The judge adjourned the case until a pre-trial hearing at Norwich Crown Court, now scheduled for Dec. 3.

Hannah worked at Grimston Medical Centre and treated multiple members of the Royal Family, including Queen Camilla. The hospital released a joint statement on its website in response to Hannah’s death:

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of our much-loved and highly respected colleague, Dr Hannah Terry. Hannah was an exceptional doctor and a deeply valued member of our NHS and primary care community. Highly intelligent, kind and generous, she brought warmth and positivity to those around her.”

Hannah’s family also shared a statement expressing their sadness over her death:

“She was kind, generous and loving; a beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie, daughter-in-law and friend. We are incredibly proud of the woman she was and of the great care she took of all her patients who knew her as Dr Terry.”
