Diane Sawyer, 80, Looks Incredible in Rare ‘Good Morning America’ Return 17 Years After Leaving

Diane Sawyer is reunited with fellow ABC News legend Robin Roberts, and the dynamic duo looks better than ever.

Sawyer, 80, is a legendary broadcast journalist who started as a teen in scholarship pageants before going to college and moving into roles in local news. She went on to become one of the most prominent voices in modern journalism. She was the first female correspondent on 60 Minutes and co-anchored Good Morning America. While the journalism icon still occasionally contributes to ABC News, the 2014 death of her husband, director Mike Nichols, has lessened her time in front of the camera. But 17 years after she left the program, Sawyer hit the set.

Sawyer is back in action alongside Roberts, who praised Sawyer in a touching photo featuring the two. Still a blonde goddess after all these years, Sawyer will go down in history as a titan of journalism.

“Longtime @goodmorningamerica fabu camera operator “Nuge” took this candid photo and sent it to me with caption: “Just like old times….” I treasure these special moments with the incomparable @dianesawyer. Such wisdom, such grace…such a dear beautiful friend. #thelmaandlouise ?,” Roberts captioned the photo, which showed them both sitting on the Good Morning America couch.

Sawyer is Back With a Revealing Michael Douglas Interview

Sawyer’s return to Good Morning America was to promote her new interview with actor Michael Douglas, who is currently on a press tour for his new memoir, One Helluva Ride.

In the book, Douglas writes, “I spent some portion of my career playing some version of the modern, flawed American male, and it was not a stretch.” When asked about the statement by Sawyer, Douglas said he had always been attracted to the idea that we are all flawed. That largely stems from his childhood as the son of legendary star Kirk Douglas.

“He was larger than life,” said Douglas. “He meant well, but he was out of that generation where you’re smacked around a fair amount.”

Douglas goes on to say that he “rarely smiled or laughed” as a child, and was frequently in tears.
