ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Erie Canalway Trail in Rochester is open again after a nearly $4 million rehabilitation project.
The upgrades covered a four-mile stretch of the trail between Lyell and Mount Hope avenues, according to state canal officials. The project included new paving, improved intersections, better accessibility and safety enhancements for walkers, runners and cyclists.
“New paving, all of the intersections, making sure that they’re ADA compliant, making sure that they’re safe for all users, whether you’re walking, running or cycling,” said Shane Mahar, director of public engagement canals at the New York Power Authority.
The investment was funded by the State Canal Corporation as part of ongoing efforts to improve and modernize the Erie Canalway Trail.
