To commemorate Kenan Stadium’s centennial season, 97.9 The Hill is inviting community members to share their favorite Kenan memories from the past 100 years. This twice-weekly series will showcase stories from players and fans throughout the fall.
The standard fan attire for a college football game is not what it once was. Today, fans will attend games at Kenan Stadium wearing jerseys, t-shirts or sundresses to beat the heat. But back in the 1960s and 70s, fans came to games dressed to the nines in coats and ties. UNC alumnus Hal Fischer, originally from New York, remembered his surprise at seeing well-dressed Tar Heel fans.
