ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Roc the Riverway Weekend, a three-day celebration of the Genesee River, wrapped up on Sunday with the Autumn at the Lake celebration at Ontario Beach Park.
The event featured live music, a pumpkin patch, arts vendors, and a showcase from a local group that creates free custom wheelchairs for children. You may remember Bella’s Bumbas for last year’s ESL Heart of Service Awards. Husband and wife Martin and Rebecca Parzynski have built thousands of wheelchairs for children locally and in nearly 70 countries. News10NBC caught up with Bella’s Bumbas volunteer David Schumacher.
“There’s no way to really describe what it’s like to change somebody’s life, because most kids with disabilities are confined to a bed or a chair, and then if you give them a wheelchair, they have mobility,” Schumacher said.
Some other events part of Roc the Riverway Weekend included a scenic river and canal cruise, tours of the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse, and a walking tour of Mount Hope Cemetery.
