This series of posts will be made weekly on Chapelboro with a full schedule of UNC sports contests, both in Chapel Hill and elsewhere. Note that game times and broadcast information are subject to change due to inclement weather or other factors.
The first full week of October will be relatively quiet until the weekend for Tar Heel athletics. But after that, it’s a busy weekend featuring several teams in action on the road. To begin with, the UNC men’s golf team will finish up play in the Fighting Irish Classic in Indiana Monday after beginning the event Sunday.
Thursday, Oct. 8
The men’s tennis team begins play at the ITA Carolina Regional event in Columbia, S.C. Thursday. The event runs through Monday.
Friday, Oct. 9
The fencing teams will take part in their first action of the fall beginning Friday in Orlando at the October North American Cup. Action begins bright and early at 8 a.m., and the event runs through Monday.
In field hockey, head coach Erin Matson’s team will take the trip up to Philadelphia to face Saint Joseph’s Friday at 3 p.m. TV channel: ESPN+
Volleyball will also hit the road Friday, traveling up to Blacksburg for a visit to Virginia Tech at 6 p.m. TV channel: ACC Network Extra
In women’s soccer, it’ll be a matchup of the last two national champions as UNC visits Florida State in Tallahassee at 6 p.m. The Tar Heels are looking for their first win against the Seminoles since 2022. TV channel: ESPNU
Over in Greensboro, Tar Heel fans will get their first look at the men’s basketball team under head coach Michael Malone as UNC takes on USC in a preseason exhibition at 7 p.m. in First Horizon Coliseum. TV channel: ACC Network. Radio broadcast available on 97.9 The Hill.
Saturday, Oct. 10
Women’s tennis will be in action both Saturday and Sunday at the ITA Hall of Fame Classic in Williamsburg, VA.
Up in the Steel City, the football team will visit undefeated Pittsburgh at 12 p.m. The Tar Heels are looking for their first ACC win of the season. TV channel: ESPN. Radio broadcast available on 97.9 The Hill.
In men’s soccer, the Tar Heels will look to extend their three-match winning streak when they host No. 13 Notre Dame at Dorrance Field at 7 p.m. TV channel: ACC Network Extra
Sunday, Oct. 11
Volleyball will remain in Virginia over the weekend, making the trip from Blacksburg to Charlottesville to face Virginia at 1 p.m. TV channel: ACC Network
The field hockey team will stay on the road as well, visiting Liberty at 1 p.m. TV channel: ESPN+
