With his 11th MLB season now in the books, Taylor Rogers intends to make it an even dozen in what will be his age-36 season. The Minnesota Star Tribune’s Bobby Nightengale writes that Rogers would ideally like either another season with the Twins, or to sign with the Blue Jays to reunite with his twin brother Tyler in Toronto’s bullpen.
After spending the first six years of his career with Minnesota, Rogers pitched for five different teams over the 2022-25 seasons before returning to the Twin Cities on a one-year, $2MM free agent deal last winter. Rogers posted a 4.33 ERA and a similar 4.58 SIERA over 60 1/3 innings, with below-average walk (11.2%) and strikeout (19.6%) rates. Both the strikeout rate and Rogers’ 34.6% grounder rates were the lowest of his career.
On the plus side, Rogers’ 28% hard-hit ball rate was not just the best of his career, but also in the 98th percentile of all pitchers in 2026. A .331 BABIP meant that Rogers didn’t receive as much benefit one might expect from inducing all that soft contact. Rogers’ 6% homer rate was also a career best, as the southpaw allowed only five home runs in his 60 1/3 frames. As one might expect, Rogers was much more effective against left-handed batters (.696 OPS) than against righties (.860 OPS), but he faced both types of hitters in almost equal measure, as Rogers’ chief role was to cover lower-leverage situations.
The numbers might have been average, but Rogers added extra value in a leadership capacity in Minnesota’s pen. Bullpen coach LaTroy Hawkins credited Rogers’ work as a mentor with younger pitchers, and told Nightengale that Rogers also helped Hawkins adjust in his first season as a big league coach. (Hawkins will be returning to the job in 2027, though the Twins won’t be retaining pitching coach Pete Maki or assistant pitching coach Luis Ramirez.)
Between this dynamic, Rogers’ long friendship with manager Derek Shelton, and the southpaw’s long history with the Twins in general, it’s easy to imagine a new contract between the two sides this winter. Rogers’ asking price is likely to be similar to his $2MM salary in 2026, which fits easily into the budget of the Twins, Blue Jays, or any team looking for bullpen help.
Toronto relievers made 1176 appearances in 2025-26, far and away the most in baseball. A veteran innings-eater like Rogers would therefore make sense as a new addition, plus Mason Fluharty was the Jays’ only somewhat reliable left-handed reliever last year. The Rogers twins previously pitched together with the Giants during the 2023-24 seasons, and could join forces again at (appropriately) Rogers Centre if the Blue Jays have interest in Taylor’s services.
