If You Love Verity, Stream These 3 Great Thrillers Right Now

Colleen Hoover has quickly become Hollywood’s go-to author for female-centric movies with bats**t crazy endings.

Her latest movie adaptation, Verity, stars Anne Hathaway as the title character, a manipulative author whose husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), asks another female writer, Lowen (Dakota Johnson), to finish her novel.

Would it shock you to reveal that a love triangle develops between these three characters and nothing is what it seems? There’s also a Gone Girl-level twist ending that fans of the book still argue about.

With Verity dominating movie theaters this weekend, some fans are bound to seek out more films that deliver the same “WTF?” thrills.

If you’re one of them, Watch With Us has your back. The following three suspense films are all available to watch on Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+ and Peacock and deliver the same zesty thrills Verity is famous for.

‘The Housemaid’ (2025) — Philo and Prime Video

Millie (Sydney Sweeney) is still on parole, so maybe that’s why she’s desperate to hold on to her new job as a housemaid to Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar) Winchester and their child, Cece (Indiana Elle). Millie likes her gig for the most part, although Nina’s behavior increasingly becomes erratic and violent. That drives her into the arms of the hunky Andrew, who doesn’t seem to mind cheating on his wife. Is Millie and Andrew’s affair enough to drive Nina over the edge for good?

Every Colleen Hoover Novel Being Adapted Into a Movie or TV Show

Based on the bestseller by Freida McFadden, The Housemaid is tailor-made for Verity fans — or anyone who likes an entertaining thriller with almost no logic. It’s hard to believe anything in The Housemaid, from the fresh-faced Millie serving a decade of hard time to Nina’s plot-based actions. But director Paul Feig is talented enough to make it all work despite not making any sense at all. The attractive leads certainly help, and Seyfried provides Nina with some of the intensity that made her portrayal of Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout so compelling to watch.

    ‘Mothers’ Instinct’ (2024) — Hulu and Disney+

Alice (Jessica Chastain) and Céline (Hathaway) are not only next-door neighbors, but they’re also best friends who help look after each other’s sons, Theo (Eamon O’ Connell) and Max (Baylen D. Bielitz). When Alice is unable to save Max from accidentally falling from a balcony, Céline is understandably heartbroken. But a mother’s grief turns into something more sinister as Céline grows closer to Theo — too close for Alice’s comfort. Is the grieving mother trying to steal her child as payback for Alice not acting quickly enough in saving Theo? Or is the price for Céline’s revenge higher — and bloodier — than that?

Mothers’ Instinct was dumped in theaters two years ago before quickly being forgotten about. Although flawed, it’s a worthwhile thriller that gives its lead actresses some meaty roles to play. A Chastain vs. Hathaway showdown is inherently appealing, and the two stars don’t disappoint. It would be a crime to reveal the third-act twist, but it’s OK to assume you probably won’t see it coming.

‘The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992) — Peacock

Just who is Peyton Flanders (Rebecca De Mornay) anyway? The attractive nanny was hired by stressed-out mom Claire Bartel (Annabella Sciorra) to help her take care of her daughter, Emma (Madeline Zima), and newborn son, but what does she really know about her besides a piece of paper that Peyton herself gave her? The answer matters because Claire starts to suspect that Peyton is growing just a little too close to her family, particularly her husband, Michael (Matt McCoy). Is it all in Claire’s head, or is Peyton really trying to replace her?

10 Greatest Thrillers of the 1990s, Ranked

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is a classic thriller that, like the other films on this list, pits its two female protagonists against each other throughout most of the film. It’s no spoiler to reveal that Peyton is a disturbed individual, and De Mornay makes her a nanny you’d love to hate. Also starring Julianne Moore as Claire’s cynical, chain-smoking best friend, this 1992 suspense masterpiece keeps you second-guessing how it’s going to end until the surprisingly brutal finale.
