ROCHESTER, N.Y. — This week on Rochester in Focus, News10NBC’s Lynette Adams started off the episode by talking with the Heroes Ball co-chair and the director of development and marketing at Gilda’s Club. Then, it’s a talk with two leaders who teamed up to bring resources to underserved communities. Then, Lynette talks with the artist of One Fine Arts Venue. The last interview is with the director of tourism for Wayne County.

The 2026 Heroes Ball, the main fundraiser for the cancer support community at Gilda’s Club, is set for Friday. Colleen Parsons, co-chair, and Maryellen Smith, director of development and marketing, discussed the event and shared details about ticket availability. Former Buffalo Bills running back and Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas is this year’s guest speaker.

    A new partnership aims to improve health outcomes for people of color. Deanna Dudley, compliance nurse for HCR Home Care, and Reverend Chassity Dennis of New Bethel C.M.E. Church are teaming up to bring information and resources to underserved communities and help people gain access to culturally competent care.

    Artist David Haygood Jr. was featured after a visit to his Henrietta gallery, One Fine Arts Venue. His work is on display, and he shared what inspires his creative process. He talks about his proudest work and his connection to the Black Heritage Committee. Haygood also explains his artistic decisions when doing portraits: color choice and facial expressions.

    Apple harvest season is underway across New York, with Wayne County leading as the top producer in the state. Christine Wirth, director of tourism, described what visitors can expect during this year’s apple tasting tour. She also explains the importance of supporting local businesses, including the creation of new apples.
