Discarded India batter Hanuma Vihari raised multiple red flags on the Indian bowling attack after Team India's defeat in the third ODI match against West Indies in New Chandigarh. India won the three-match series, but missed the opportunity to whitewash West Indies as they failed to protect the 351-run total in the final match of the ODI series.
Hanuma Vihari, through his YouTube video, blamed the Indian bowling attack for the defeat. With Shai Hope's match-defining century, the visitors claimed the win inside the 49th over of the second innings.
Vihari, in his assessment, opined that the management tried to find a new bowling combination through permutations and combinations, but the bowling lacked quality without Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.
Hanuma Vihari said the defeat against the West Indies cricket team was a wake-up call for the West Indies cricket team ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. The batter suggested that the team management investigate the bowling attack, which failed to do enough to protect the 351-run total.
"We could not defend 350. Is this not a wake-up call? I think the team is going backwards. This is a big blow. This has happened on very rare occasions when the Indian team fails to defend 350. This bowling attack certainly has to be investigated. They conceded 405 also in the previous match," he said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Hanuma Vihari rates bowlers one by one
Further in the same video, Vihari rated individual bowlers' performance in short. Apart from Kuldeep Yadav, according to Vihari, the rest of the bowlers did decent jobs, but not enough to prevent the team from going down against the opposing team.
"Gurnoor was okay. There are some fitness concerns with him. Nitish was also okay. Siraj was decent; I would not say it was world-class from him. Kuldeep also looked a bit off color. Naman bowled decently, but with such a fifth bowling quota, while defending 350, you need a better option. That is where the bowling has been exposed. This is where they are really missing Hardik and Bumrah," he added.
The backup bowlers were also off color: Hanuma Vihari
Not only Kuldeep, in the eyes of Vihari, the backup bowlers, like Anshul Kamboj, were not at their best in the India vs West Indies 3rd ODI match. But the batter believed that from now on, Prasidh Krishna will become a regular fast bowler for the team.
"The backup bowlers were also off color. Kamboj bowled at a better pace, which was good to see. But there is still a long way to go. I think Prasidh will be a regular from here. They will still try Gurnoor and Kamboj."
"Siraj is returning to the side. They have tried Auqib and Nitish as well. They are trying to find a solution. It is not a great stage to be in just one year before the World Cup," Hanuma Vihari continued.
