Foodlink’s Community Farm in Rochester celebrates first full year with annual festival

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Foodlink hosted its fifth annual Fall Festival Saturday afternoon at its community farm on Lexington Avenue, offering free food, giveaways and a chance for visitors to learn more about the farm.

This year’s festival celebrated the first full year of growing at the community farm since it reopened last year after renovations that expanded its footprint. Declan Stablow of News10NBC reported live from the event.

Foodlink has operated the farm since 2010, but over the past year, it transformed the property into a broader community space. Foodlink said it has welcomed more than 100 community gardeners during the past year.

Foodlink also said it sent out thousands of starter plants to more than 100 other community gardens around Rochester. The farm serves as a community garden for locals, including many resettled new Americans.

“The new location has been great. The community is really embracing us. We’re able to really make an impact with students and community members on just focusing on a different approach to food for sustainability and lessons. Edible Education Center. We’re able to teach students how to how to cook food that they’re growing and then how to grow food on their own. So it’s really exciting,” said Frank Keophetlasy, manager.

Foodlink said it has hosted every Rochester City School District third grader for a field trip at the farm. A portion of the property is also used for commercial growing to support programs like the Curbside Market, Foodlink Community Cafe and kitchen.

Foodlink said the Fall Festival gives people the farm experience without having to leave the city.
