ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) held its annual walk fundraiser on Saturday at the Asbury Methodist Church on East Avenue.
Over 500 people registered for the walk, and over $116,000 has been raised as of 4:30 p.m.; the goal is $120,000. It kicks off Mental Illness Awareness Week. The event began at 10 a.m. and ended at 1 p.m. with health vendors and live music playing.
News10NBC’s Brett Davidsen performed at the event.
“We’re all in this together. I mean, it takes a village, as they say. We work closely with lots of different organizations and departments, both government and private, who are in the mental health field,” said John Messenger, board president of NAMI Rochester.
“We do support groups that give people helpful information and connect them to others who’re going through the same thing,” Messenger said.
It’s the second time the annual fundraiser has held the walk at Asbury.
