BATH, N.Y. — The Steuben County Legislator called for a two-year delay of the new cost-sharing requirements for SNAP. The resolution was approved Monday to ask the federal government to postpone the cost shifts.
It specifically calls for the postponement of the new SNAP administrative costs for Federal Fiscal Years 2027 to 2029, stemming from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Steuben County says the federal changes to the SNAP administrative costs were expected to decrease from 50% to 25% by Thursday. The county also says because New York State requires counties to share administrative SNAP costs, the recent change could lead to “significant costs for county governments and local property taxpayers.”
