ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Libyan man has been convicted by a federal jury over threatening to murder two Rochester federal judges.
Authorities say Akram Marseet, a 42-year-old from Libya, threatened the judges while the judges were working.
Back in 2024, U.S. Marshals said it received a report that a threat was made by Marseet over a phone call to the Clerks’ Office for the Western District of New York, including people protected by the Marshals Service.
Marseet identified himself in the call, saying he had a pending case number and later talked about the details of his civil case, authorities say. He was familiar with the clerk he was speaking with on the call. and previously went to the clerk’s office multiple times, prosecutors told us.
In the call with the clerk, prosecutors say Marseet got agitated in the conversation because his case was dismissed, leading him to say several statements about the two judges. Marseet stated, “If I ever come across any of you, you will be dead sons of (expletive).”
The dismissed case was about Marseet claiming to be discriminated against when he was an employee at Rochester Institute of Technology.
He’s been charged with two counts of threatening a United States judge. The maximum sentence is 10 years in prison for the threat.
He’s scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 1, 2027.
