September 29th – October 2nd Prelims at 10am local (8pm ET previous night)/Finals at 6pm local (4am ET) Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre SCM (25m) Meet Central Australian SC Worlds Selection Criteria Live Results Recaps: Prelims: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 Finals: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4

The 2026 Australian Short Course Championships wrapped up tonight at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, and Swimming Australia wasted no time revealing its roster for Beijing.

A 24-strong lineup is set to represent the green and gold at this year’s Short Course World Championships, with a sprinkling of Dolphin rookies amidst a list of veterans.

Olympic medalists Lani Pallister and Flynn Southam are among the seasoned qualifiers, joined by World Championships medalists Iona Anderson, Jenna Forrester and Sam Short.

Among the first-timers are Marcus Da Silva, Mark Nikolaev and Amelie Smith, who were breakout performers in Sydney this week.

    Of Significance

Although new dad, Olympic champion and World Record holder Cameron McEvoy did not compete at the Aussie SC Championships qualifier, there is still the possibility the 32-year-old can race in Beijing in the form of a World Aquatics wildcard. WA is offering direct qualification to any swimmer who finishes in the top three of an individual final at any of the three stops of the World Cup, and McEvoy already won the 50m free to open Baku. 21-year-old Ed Sommerville had qualified for the SC Worlds team, courtesy of his 200m free victory; however, according to Swimming Australia, he has ruled himself ineligible for selection, preferring to concentrate on his training base in Brisbane with Maximillian Giuliani to fill the vacancy.

Head coach Rohan Taylor praised the clean-sweep performance of Pallister (200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m titles) and Short (400m, 800m, 1500m), and the durability of Forrester (gold in 400IM, silver 200m free/200m back/200IM and 400m free).

“Those three without a doubt have been standouts here but also it’s been great to see the likes of Amelie Smith and Marcus Da Silva come through the ranks and shift the dial. Also credit to Mark Nikolaev, it’s a credit to his consistency and perseverance that he has earned his Dolphin number tonight,” Taylor said.

“The international exposure in Beijing is an opportunity to come together and build towards LA 2028 and the meet presents a great opportunity for our younger swimmers to learn from established Dolphins – this is a springboard meet ahead of long course World Championships next year.

“It’s a learning opportunity for younger athletes to learn how to travel, become more resilient and perform when it matters most in an unfamiliar environment including time zones, weather and diet.”

This is the same roster size as what Australia carried into Budapest at the 2024 edition of the Short Course World Championships. That competition saw the country place 6th in the overall swimming medal table, bringing home 12 pieces of hardware, including two golds.

Individual champions included Pallister in the women’s 800m freestyle and Elijah Winnington in the men’s 400m freestyle.

Winnington will not get a chance to defend his title, as he missed selection based on his performances in Sydney this week.
