Gypsy Rose Blanchard is asking for compassion as she mourns the sudden death of Ken Urker, the father of her young daughter, Aurora.
In a new interview with PEOPLE, Blanchard opened up about Urker’s death and made an emotional plea for their daughter to one day know her father for who he was, not simply for what strangers online said about him.
“Ken loved our daughter, Aurora,” Blanchard told the outlet, adding that she will make sure their daughter knows “how deeply her father loved her.”
She also said she wants Aurora to understand who Urker was beyond the public scrutiny surrounding their relationship.
Blanchard and Urker welcomed Aurora in December 2024 after rekindling their relationship earlier that year. The couple had first met through a prison pen-pal program and became engaged in 2018, before eventually separating. They later found their way back to each other following Blanchard’s split from her ex-husband, Ryan Anderson.
Urker died on Oct. 1 at a home in Raceland, Louisiana, on what was his 34th birthday. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office said authorities responded to the residence after receiving a call around 6:15 p.m. and found Urker dead upon arrival. His death remains under investigation.
Blanchard also addressed what she believes happened to Urker, telling PEOPLE that she believes he died following an overdose. She said she does not know what substance he may have taken or whether the overdose was intentional, and said he had recently been in a difficult state of mind.
Authorities have not announced an official cause of death.
In her first statement following his death, Blanchard also spoke about the intense public scrutiny Urker faced online. She said the couple had endured what she described as relentless cyberbullying and believes the experience had a profound impact on him.
Now, as she grieves, Blanchard is asking that the focus remain on the man Aurora knew as her father, and on the family members left behind.
“Ken was an amazing father and a man who was deeply loved,” Blanchard told PEOPLE. “He will forever be my soulmate.”
