A 70-year-old woman was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood, police said.
According to Chicago police, a 63-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged in connection with the shooting, which unfolded inside a residence in the 1900 block of West 83rd Street.
Police were called to a residence in the 1900 block of West 83rd Street at approximately 3:18 p.m. for a report of shots fired.
According to authorities, a man and a woman inside the residence became involved in a physical altercation, and during that fight the man pulled out a weapon and shot the woman in the chest and neck.
Police say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the suspect was taken into custody. A firearm was also recovered inside the home.
According to a press release, 63-year-old Randy Washington has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting, and is facing a detention hearing Friday.
