Neighbours is back, this time with a vertical twist, as Epis plans to rework storylines into vertical dramas for a new generation. Now, star Stefan Dennis, who has played Paul Robinson since the show’s premiere back in 1985, has spoken out against the move.
As Parade previously reported, Neighbours will return as a digital vertical for Epis, with studio RoseBerry Media leveraging its proprietary A.I. software, Red Snapper, to streamline the process by scanning episodes and breaking down relevant storylines and moments that editors can then use to construct the vertical narrative.

Dennis spoke out to the Herald Sun about the move, calling the use of A.I. “unbelievably invasive, morally and legally wrong, and somehow it appears we can’t do anything about it.”
The beloved actor explained that he’s already reached out to his agent to look into the matter, as “I imagine everyone else on Neighbours is doing the same thing.”
He also said that the Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance and the Australian Writers’ Guild will be looking into the development as well.
With that said, Dennis doesn’t feel confident that anything can be done at this point to stop it. “Whether they can stop it is another thing. We’re dealing with a very big machine,” he shared.
Neighbours began in 1985 on Channel 7 in Australia before moving to Channel 10 the following year, in 1986. The series’ most recent run was on Amazon’s Freevee service, and it ultimately came to a close last year, in December of 2025.
Over 9,300 episodes of Neighbours were produced for television, giving a large amount of content for Epis to redevelop as vertical dramas.
Leveraging its powerhouse performances, the first verticals being told will feature Margot Robbie as Donna Freedman and her relationship with Ringo Brown (Sam Clark).
Classic episodes of Neighbours from the beginning are available on the series official YouTube account, while episodes from 2011 through its finale are available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
