A 28-year-old man as been identified as the person killed in a deadly shooting outside the popular Oakbrook Center Mall this week, authorities said.
Justin Hill, of Dolton, was shot and killed during a confrontation between two groups in the parking lot of the suburban mall Wednesday afternoon. The shooting also injured a woman, who remained hospitalized Thursday at an area medical facility. An officer has been assigned for security at the hospital amid the ongoing investigation, Oak Brook police said.
The department said it was reviewing digital and physical evidence in the incident, with another update expected Friday.
Police had already said a confrontation between two groups of individuals ended in gunfire outside Oakbrook Center Mall, with a man killed and a woman hurt.
According to an update from Oak Brook Wednesday afternoon, a confrontation occurred in the mall’s parking lot just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Two vehicles, carrying a total of five individuals, parked near each other in the parking lot, and during that meeting an altercation occurred, with at least one individual opening fire.
A man was struck by gunfire and has been pronounced dead, while a woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment for her injuries.
Police in Oak Brook allowed the mall to stay open after the shooting, but beefed up presence around the facility as they investigated in the shooting.
Multiple individuals were taken in for questioning, including individuals who were in a vehicle that fled the scene after the shooting, according to police.
