If you were hoping to make a reservation at Macy’s on State Street’s iconic Marshall Field’s Walnut Room for the holidays, it appeared the restaurant’s website was down in the moments leading up to the big release.
As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Macy’s Restaurant website gave an error message for users. This came as the department store was set to open up reservations for its winter season at 9 a.m. on OpenTable.
Though the reservation site itself was still working, the website dedicated to the restaurant was not.
Opened back in 1907 as the first full-service restaurant inside a department store, every winter the space is transformed into a festive winter wonderland complete with lights, presents, and a 45-foot-tall giant tree.
The massive tree serves as a centerfold for the 17,000-square-foot space. Each year it features a special theme revealed closer to its lighting ceremony on Nov. 7.
Aside from its festive holiday dinner, families can also book a breakfast with Santa Claus, The Great Tree Breakfast Brunch, and afternoon tea.
This year’s menus are available on Macy’s website. Dinner features entrees like Cider-glazed slow-roasted breast of turkey, Mrs. Herin’s Original Chicken Pot Pie, and Asiago-crusted chicken. For dessert, there’s a build-your-own snowman kit, Field’s double chocolate fudge cake, and Cookie exchange platter.
Even if you don’t have your winter plans set in stone just yet, it might be a good idea to lock in a reservation now. Space is limited, and reservations often get run out quickly.
The Marshall Field’s Walnut Room is available from Nov. 7 through Jan. 10.
