Moonshot Creamery, the ice cream parlor and wine shop in the Shops at Riverwalk Place in Tuscaloosa, is closing this week after three years in business.
Owners Audrey and Paul Vermilyea announced the decision Sunday on Instagram, saying the shop’s lease at 1650 Jack Warner Parkway was ending and that they had decided not to renew it.
“This supportive community and dependable team have been the best parts of this adventure,” they said in a post.
The creamery stayed open for regular hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before ceasing operations, giving customers the chance to stop in for one last scoop.
The couple opened Moonshot in June 2023 in a suite previously occupied by Domo, an artisanal market they ran for about a year before closing it in April 2023. The creamery sold small batches of ice cream with more than 20 rotating flavors, along with natural and low-intervention wines.
Audrey Vermilyea told the Tuscaloosa Thread the couple wanted “the most interesting and eclectic selection of wine in Tuscaloosa” at affordable prices. The Vermilyeas, who are both UA graduates, also own Monarch Espresso Bar downtown. The owners did not announce plans for a new location.
“We’re so grateful for all the love you’ve poured into our little ice cream shop, from the after school treats to the late night scoops to the weddings and special occasions we’ve been a part of,” the owners said. “We will forever treasure Moonshot and all the people who made it great.”
