BRIGHTON, N.Y. — Two suspicious explosions were caught on camera in Brighton within three days, with flashes of light seen coming from the direction of Elmwood Avenue.
“It sounded like a cannonball”
The explosions were captured on cameras in a Brighton neighborhood, one during the day and one at night. The incidents were recorded at the home of Amy Stokesberry.
“It sounded like a cannonball. I can’t think of any other way to describe it,” Stokesberry said.
New video shows how it happens
A separate video from March in Webster showed a firework being tossed from a car, followed by an explosion and smoke billowing across a lawn and driveway. The sound was similar to other explosions recorded in Webster over the past year and to what Jenny Hedworth heard twice in Canandaigua this summer.
“It was just this massive boom,” Hedworth said

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office investigated the Canandaigua explosions but found no evidence. After the Brighton explosions, Brean met with Brighton Police Chief David Catholdi.
Police: very dangerous, very volatile
“Well, just a few nights ago we had them. We received some 911 calls on those. Officers were out in the area. They actually talked to some people who were out walking that evening. The best they could surmise is that it’s possibly fireworks,” Catholdi said.
“It’s dangerous to think – if it is in fact fireworks being set off, are they homemade fireworks? That could be very dangerous and very volatile,” Catholdi said.
Brighton Police Department said they found no evidence of the explosions. Neighbors in Webster said the explosions stopped happening there in late spring.
