CHURCHVILLE, N.Y. — The Churchville-Chili Central School District is investigating after a TikTok page shared “derogatory and inappropriate imagery” and content targeting school community members.
A letter from Superintendent Dr. Carmine Peluso says the district is working with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and has contacted TikTok to try to remove the page. News10NBC sees that the page has been removed.
Peluso’s letter asks anyone with information about the account to reach out to the middle school office. The letter also says that any students found responsible for creating the account will face disciplinary consequences. Here’s the superintendent’s message to families:
“We want to bring to your attention a social media concern. A TikTok page containing derogatory and inappropriate imagery and comments targeting members of our school community is circulating. We are working with the Sheriff’s Office to investigate the origins of this account and have contacted TikTok in an attempt to have the page removed from the platform. If you or your child have information about the account, please reach out to the middle school office.”
“Social media pages that include derogatory or inappropriate content targeting members of our school community violate our District Code of Conduct. Such actions go against our District Priority of maintaining a safe and supportive school environment and do not reflect our Core Belief of treating one another with mutual respect, dignity, honesty, and appreciation. Please know that any students found responsible for creating or contributing to accounts of this nature will face disciplinary consequences in accordance with our Code of Conduct. As October is National Bullying Prevention Month, this is an important time to talk with your child(ren) about the lasting impact of online actions, the harm caused by cyberbullying, and the importance of using technology responsibly and with integrity.”
