It's officially the end of an era for Doctor Who, as the Fifteenth Doctor's TARDIS set has officially been dismantled.
The beloved BBC sci-fi is set to enter a new chapter, with production companies currently competing to win the tender to produce the show.
In the midst of this, Jane Tranter, former producer of Doctor Who, shared some behind-the-scenes snaps from her last day on set.
Posting a picture from July of herself and her Bad Wolf colleagues on the TARDIS set, Tranter wrote that it was a "final goodbye to the Tardis from some of the team who designed + built it, on the eve of having to take it down…"
The TARDIS being dismantled officially marks the end of the Bad Wolf era of Doctor Who, with it being confirmed earlier this year that the 2026 Christmas special had been cancelled and Russell T Davies had stepped back as showrunner.
However, the Time Lord and the TARDIS will return to the BBC, with the recently published invitation to tender confirming that the broadcaster is aiming for a 2028/2029 transmission for the next season.
Production companies are invited to submit their bids for a multi-episode season and specials, with the chance of being renewed for another season.
The BBC stated that the new season of Doctor Who should feel "contemporary and creatively ambitious".
It went on to say: "Stories should balance high-concept science fiction with strong emotional narratives, ensuring that spectacle is always grounded in character and human experience.
"Episodes should transport audiences to extraordinary times and places, ranging from historical settings to distant futures, alien worlds and contemporary Earth. Successful pitches will deliver ‘back of the sofa’ scares, jeopardy and tension, whilst remaining suitable for a broad family audience."
Regarding the production location, the document states that the BBC has "a preference for a Wales qualification", following Tranter's former prediction that production would remain in the country.
Production companies like BBC Studios, World Productions and Electric Entertainment have expressed interest in competing for the series.
