Taylor Swift had several major wins at last night’s VMAs for multiple songs off her 2025 studio album The Life of a Showgirl, and she dedicated one award in particular to the late, great Dolly Parton.
Among those, Swift won the Video of the Year award for her song “The Fate of Ophelia” off the Life of a Showgirl album last night, becoming the musician with the most VMA wins in history at 33 total awards (topping Beyoncé’s previously held record of 30).
In addition to her “Fate of Ophelia” win, Swift also took home the first-ever Artist Director Honors award, as well as the award for Best Direction for “Opalite,” another Life of a Showgirl hit.
During her acceptance speech for Video of the Year, Swift specifically shouted out Parton, who passed away last month.
“I want to thank and dedicate this award to one person without whom this wouldn’t be happening,” Swift said. “And that person is the ultimate showgirl, Dolly Parton. Every single song that she wrote, her storytelling was so vivid and so rich. It was like, listening to her songs, it’s like watching the best music video you have ever seen in your life, every single time you hear what she has written.”
She continued, “Man, she handled this thing with such grace and joy and love and gratitude for the fact that she got to do this. And everything that happened in her life or her career, she channeled back into love and gratitude and appreciation for her fans. I am lucky I got to be one of them, and I will always be one of them. I love you all so very much, and I think we were all very lucky to share this planet with Dolly Parton for a time.”
