Parts of DuSable Lake Shore Drive were closed early Monday morning after a wrong-way crash triggered a chain-reaction collision, leaving a woman killed and one man in police custody.
The crash occurred about 11:21 p.m. Sunday in the 4000 block of DuSable Lake Shore Drive’s northbound lanes, when a black SUV drove down the wrong side of the road and struck a white sedan head-on.
That crash then caused a chain-reaction collision, police said, involving the white sedan and a black coupe.
The driver of the black SUV, a man, was not injured and was taken into custody. The driver of the white sedan, a woman, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the black coupe was not injured, police said.
Photos and video from the scene shortly after the crash showed significant vehicle damage, with debris strewn across the roadway. Ambulances and police cars could be seen blocking traffic.
As of 5:30 a.m., all northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive were shut down between 47th Street to Oakwood Boulevard as part of the investigation.
