This week in local government, Tongde Wu will take her oath of office as the newest member of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board, after being appointed last week to serve out the rest of Rani Dasi’s term. Dasi’s now an Orange County Commissioner – and as it happens, county commissioners are slated to meet jointly with the CHCCS and Orange County school boards this week to discuss several key issues, including students’ behavioral health as well as future budget concerns. Tongde Wu won’t be on the dais for that one, though: it takes place two days before she officially joins the school board.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
Orange County Commissioners meet jointly with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Orange County school boards Tuesday, September 29, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Their agenda includes a budget update, a look at state accountability results from the last school year, and a report on behavioral health for local students. Click here to read the full agenda.
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board also meets separately Thursday, October 1, at 6 p.m. in the Lincoln Center. Newly appointed board member Tongde Wu will take her oath of office before the board receives an update on implementing the district’s strategic plan. Get the full agenda at this link.

Chatham and Durham Counties
Chatham County Commissioners have a two-day retreat on affordable housing this week, beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, September 28, and continuing through Tuesday, September 29. Click here to read the agenda in full.
