Sarandon wore a T-shirt that said, “Fund people not bombs.” An NYPD spokesperson shared that officers had been called to reports of an “unscheduled demonstration” that was blocking intersections. When they got there, warnings were issued to advise people to leave, and when they didn’t, they were taken into custody.
The spokesperson didn’t provide the number of people arrested. Nor has there been any word on the reports of Sarandon and Einbinder’s detentions.

Sarandon recently spoke out about how she has found it hard to find work due to her stance on the war in Gaza. While at the Venice Film Festival, she explained that the “power structure” was making it difficult for her to land roles, sharing that “there are still very strongly held positions within my industry that are held by Zionists and who have not relaxed their feelings towards me.”
She ended that speech sharing that she has “found my family” and “found my people,” clarifying that she is “okay.”
Sarandon is not the only actress who has found herself in hot water due to being a part of protests or speaking out about Palestine. Melissa Barrera was fired from Scream 7 due to her online statements. Einbinder had originally remained quiet about hers, but realized that the cost of not speaking up was greater than losing her career, sharing, “You’ve just got to have your priorities straight.”
The Guardian also reports that democratic congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier and New York City council member Chi Ossé were among those arrested by NYPD officers.
