A 21-year-old man led police on a chase through multiple Chicago suburbs, weaving through lanes on a Chicago-area expressway and numerous roadways before losing a tire and continuing to drive in a wild scene that unfolded on camera.
Footage captured by NBC Chicago’s Sky 5 helicopter showed the chase traveling across the city’s western suburbs Wednesday afternoon.
In a release Thursday, authorities said they tried to conduct a traffic stop on a black Lexus sedan around 4:30 p.m. after officers witnessed multiple traffic violations involving a vehicle wanted for fleeing and eluding officers in DuPage County.
“The driver failed to yield to police emergency equipment, and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle traveled onto I-290 and multiple area roadways disregarding presence of multiple pursuing law enforcement agencies,” Berkeley police said in a release.
At one point during the pursuit, police deployed a tire-deflation device. The driver continued to flee anyways and eventually lost a tire, but kept driving.
Eventually, the pursuit came to an end near Canterbury Street and Boeger Avenue and officers conducted “a high-risk traffic stop.”
The driver was taken into custody and later identified as 21-year-old Vincent Kehoe, of Berkeley, police said.
Kehoe, who was on a pretrial release after fleeing eluding police in cook County in a previous incident, was charged with two counts of felony aggravated fleeing/eluding and issued multiple traffic citations related in connection with the incident, police said in their release.
