WATERLOO, N.Y. — A boil water order has been issued by the Seneca County Health Department for parts of Waterloo after a water main break caused the water system to lose pressure.
The boil water order applies to the Village of Waterloo water district for 4-56 West Elizabeth Street and 17-38 Center Street.
According to the health department, the water system lost pressure due to a water main break at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday. The department says when water mains lose pressure, it increases the chance that untreated water and harmful microbes can enter water.
Harmful microbes in drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms, the health department says.
The waterline is currently being repaired, the health department says. People will likely need to boil water for the next three days until the problem is fixed, the department added.
