ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Here’s your guide to what’s happening around the Rochester area on Wednesday. You can see more upcoming events in our community calendar.

ROC the Block job fair

Parcel 5 in downtown Rochester will host the final ROC the Block job fair of the season. It runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature 168 employers, community groups, and other resource providers across the region.

In addition to learning about job openings, people can get help with their resume and learn about support services such as childcare and housing. The city’s Workforce Development Mobile Unit will be there with Wi-Fi access and laptops.

The ROC the Block series kicked off in June, and the city says the goal is to create a one-stop shop for job seekers in a block party-style event.

Also on Wednesday, members of the city’s Office of Management and Budget will be at Parcel 5 to get the public’s feedback on what to prioritize in the next budget. The city says the feedback will help to guide its spending plan for the 2027 to 2028 fiscal year, which begins next July 1.

Veterans Stand Down and Job Fair

An event at the Rochester Public Market aims to connect veterans with job-seeking resources, benefits, legal assistance, health care, and VA eligibility, housing, counseling, education, and more.

The Veterans Stand Down and Job Fair runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A free lunch will be provided. You can register to participate at the event or by scanning the QR code in this post. The Veterans Outreach Center is organizing the event with help from several partners. Veterans are encouraged to bring their DD-214 if available.

Forum on city’s zoning alignment project

Wednesday marks the start of a series of hearings to get feedback on Mayor Malik Evans’ plan to overhaul the city’s zoning code. Council Member Michael Patterson is hosting a hearing at 5:30 p.m. at the Norton Village Lodge on 300 Waring Rd. to get feedback from residents in the Northeast District.

Evans is hoping to overhaul the zoning code to align with the Rochester 2034 Comprehensive Plan, which he calls the blueprint for growth over the next 15 years. According to the zoning plan’s website, the city hasn’t taken a comprehensive look at its zoning codes since 2003, and a lot has changed since then.

In the simplest terms, zoning regulates what structures and land may and may not be used for. Council members are looking for feedback as they review the mayor’s plan. Here are the other upcoming meetings:
