ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Terrance Building, which used to house the Rochester Psychiatric Center on Elmwood Avenue in Rochester, has sat vacant for more than 30 years.
In June, News10NBC reported that $20 million from New York State is going toward demolishing the building. More than three months since that announcement, and not much has changed with the property. The graffiti and damage to the building are still visible from the street and the property is surrounded by fencing and security cameras.
A viewer named Mitchell asked News10NBC when the Terrance Building will be demolished. News10NBC’s Emily Putnam looked into the question.There’s a sign out front with two phone numbers. Emily called both — one was out of order and no one answered the other. She also reached out to the city of Rochester. A representative from the City said the developer is Whitestone Development Partners, and it’s up to the company to set a date for demolition.News10NBC was able to reach a development manager with Whitestone. They weren’t able to provide a date for demolition – or any other details about the plans or timeline for the project – but said to check back in a few weeks.Gov. Kathy Hochul says the plan is to build 400 to 500 housing units. News10NBC is working to learn from Hochul’s office if the money has been delivered and any further details on the timeline for the project.
