Red Wings playoff watch party and home run derby
ESL Ballpark is hosting both its annual Home Run Derby and a watch party for the team’s first playoff game in 13 years. The Red Wings will start their best-of-three series, played entirely in Memphis, on Tuesday against the Redbirds. You can see the full schedule here.
The playoff game happens to fall on the same day as the third annual Home Run Derby, a celebration featuring local high school and college athletes and a meet-and-greet with Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Tickets are free and can be picked up at any of the Vision Automotive Group locations in the Rochester area.
Gates at the ballpark open at 5:30 p.m. and the derby gets underway at 6 p.m. The first 1,000 attendees will get a free hot dog and ice cream sandwich. There will also be free giveaways throughout the evening, including T-shirts, compliments for oil changes, Vision Auto Group lifetime inspection tags, a year of Blizzards from Dairy Queen, a year of free pizza from Salvatore’s, and Red Wings items. Damar Hamlin will give autographs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Then, the watch party gets underway at 7:45 p.m. The game will be screened on both video boards, and concession stands will remain open. Rochester Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason spoke about the action-packed day for the team:

The 15th annual Rochester Fringe Festival continues on Tuesday with multiple free and ticketed acts. The 12-day festival brings music, dance, theater, comedy, film, visual arts, acrobatics, and other kinds of acts to venues across the city.
In total, the festival features 715 performances across 45 venues. It runs through Saturday, Sept. 26, and is considered New York State’s largest multidisciplinary performing arts festival.

Tuesday’s Fringe Festival acts include Shotspeare’s modern adaptation of “Othello” at the Spiegeltent, two different versions of the comedy production “Bushwhacked”, Cirque du Fringe: Anchors Away at the Spiegeltent, and a performance from the “The Fiddle Witch” at The Rose Room. Festival venues include universities, schools, museums, theaters, restaurants, cultural institutions, outdoor spaces, and more. Once again, organizers have set up the Spiegelgarden at the corner of Gibbs and East Main streets as a hub for people to learn about the festival, get food and drinks, play outdoor games, and watch free outdoor movies.
Free car seat inspections
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee is holding free car seat safety check events across the Rochester region and the state. Certified child passenger safety technicians will inspect car seats for proper installation, appropriateness, and expiration dates.
The DMV says 80% to 90% of car seats in the state may be incorrectly installed. If a technician considers a car seat to be unsafe, a replacement seat will be provided for free. Here are some of the upcoming seat check events:
