Opta Analyst’s FCS football coverage includes weekly national player and team honors during the regular season, leading into Stats Perform’s season-ending awards, now in their 40th year.
South Dakota State’s Josiah Johnson, Elon’s Brodie Carroll, Norfolk State’s Jason Wonodi and Penn’s Miles Teodecki were selected on Monday as the Stats Perform FCS National Players of the Week for Week 3 college football games.
In addition, the Stony Brook Seawolves were named the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week.
Following are this week’s five honorees plus honorable mention selections:
FCS National Offensive Player of the Week
Josiah Johnson, South Dakota State, RB, So., 6-0, 215
Johnson tripled his previous career high with 239 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns to fuel No. 2 SDSU’s 27-20 win over then-No. 9 Youngstown State in the first Missouri Valley Football Conference game of the season. He was a workman with 30 carries, including 12 that went for first downs and seven of at least 12 yards. His TD runs came from 4 and 16 yards out.

FCS National Defensive Player of the Week
Brodie Carroll, Elon, LB, R-Jr., 6-1, 235
The All-CAA standout had arguably his best career game, racking up a personal-high 16 tackles, including 11 solos, with a sack and two pass breakups, as Elon edged Sacred Heart 24-21. The 16 stops were the most by Phoenix player since 2021. On Sacred Heart’s final drive, Carroll stepped up with a trio of tackles and a PBU.

FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week
Jason Wonodi, Norfolk State, Returner, R-Sr., 5-11, 180
Wonodi’s two punt return touchdowns and record-setting performance helped NSU beat rival Hampton 42-21 in the Battle of the Bay. He had a 37-yard return into Hampton territory to set up the MEAC squad’s first TD, scored on a 76-yard return midway through the second quarter to provide the lead for good, and added a 57-yard TD return in the fourth. He set NSU game records for punt return yards (170) and average (56.7). He also had an 18-yard kickoff return.

FCS National Freshman Player of the Week
Miles Teodecki, Penn, QB, Fr., 6-3, 215
In his first collegiate game, Teodecki helped Penn’s 150th season and the Rick Santos coaching era at the Ivy League school to get off to a winning start – 20-7 at Bucknell. He completed 18-of-34 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns (37 and 10 yards) with one interception. He also carried the ball 13 times for 87 yards, including a 1-yard score.

Stony Brook Seawolves (56-24 win over then-No. 8 Rhode Island)
CJ Hester had four rushing touchdowns and Jeremiah Coney added three more as Stony Brook posted its first Top 10 win since 2019 and ended Rhode Island’s 11-game CAA winning streak. The Seawolves (2-2, 1-0) rushed for 321 yards, including quarterback Quinn Boyd with a career-high 155. Linebacker Lance Byndon had eight tackles, including 3.0 TFLs and 1.5 sacks, for coach Billy Cosh’s squad.
