Mary Bernadine (AuBuchon) Kramer, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sept 18, 2026 at her daughter’s home in Greenwood, IN.
Born to Frances and Walter AuBuchon in Bonne Terre, Missouri on April 18, 1935, Mary was the eldest of three sisters, herself, Marilyn (Early) and Marie (Ford). In 1954, Mary married William “Bill” Leo Kramer and bore eight children in 13 years–Debora Kramer Porter (Carl), Dianne Berk (Richard), Paula Miller (Daniel), Pamela Kramer (John), Ronald Kramer (Mary), Rhonda Jackson (Mike), Paul Kramer (Nancy), and Colleen Johnson (Timothy). Mary was blessed with 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Bill (d. 2013) of 59 years, her sister Maire (d. 2008), and her son Ronald (d. 2024).
Mary was a dedicated Roman Catholic, and participated in all aspects of church and community life. She taught Sunday school, and was a frequent minister of the Eucharist. She enjoyed fellowship, ministering to the needy and cleaning the church. As an aside, she and Bill were dedicated fans of EWTN. She held strong to her beliefs all her life and was a rock to anyone who knew her.
Mary loved caring for the sick and in firmed. After her eighth child entered kindergarten, she undertook and completed a degree in nursing at IUPUI. Her career began with caring for psychiatric and then, rehabilitation patients. In 1985, she and Bill moved to a large 180 acre animal farm in Carthage, TN where she worked as a nurse at a small local hospital for a time, but mostly as a farm keeper. She and Bill weren’t afraid of hard work and designed and built a second house on the hill. They entertained a lot of visitors during that time. In 2006, they moved to Edinburgh, IN to spend quality time with their ever-expanding family. They hosted birthdays and holidays and attended baptisms and first communions but her greatest joy was helping family members with home improvement projects. Photos often show her with a spackle knife or paint brush in her hand. In the evenings, Mary was often found at the sink doing dishes, saying it was her joy to do so.
She was a “giver” in every aspect of her life, and will lovingly be remembered for her love of family and dedication to her faith and religion.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the EWTN global catholic network or Heart to Heart Hospice of Indiana.
Funeral services will be held at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church on September 23, 2026 with visitation starting at 11:00am followed by a rosary at 12:30 PM in the church. At 1 PM, Fr Jack Wright will preside over the Catholic Funeral Mass, followed by a procession and burial at Calvary Cemetery.
