PENFIELD, N.Y. — A woman is speaking out after her longtime friend was murdered on Ewald Drive in Penfield over the weekend.
Joseph Petrella, 39, is charged with second-degree murder, accused of stabbing his mother, 60-year-old Amy Hogan, multiple times in the mobile home they shared. Monroe County sheriff’s deputies say they found Hogan’s body on Sunday afternoon after being called to a different home on Ewald Drive for the report of a burglary.
Lori Broccolo said she had known Hogan for over 50 years. She described Hogan as a lifelong friend who lit up a room.
“She was a best friend to everyone. She was always there for you. Finding out how horrible this was for her was hard because she was such a bright light, and I know everyone says that when someone dies, but she lit up a room,” Broccolo said.
Court paperwork says the killing happened sometime between Saturday at 1:48 p.m. and Sunday at 3:15 p.m. Deputies say they found Hogan’s body in the trailer’s bathtub, wrapped in a plastic shower curtain and surrounded by frozen items.
Petrella is due in court on Friday for a preliminary hearing in Penfield Town Court. He’s also charged with burglary and petit larceny. Check back for updates.
