Colin Farrell was spotted earlier this week in Los Angeles looking, well, different. The 50-year-old actor debuted a new ‘do, rocking a shaved head.
That’s right, Farrell’s luxe brunette locks are officially gone. As of now, it’s unclear whether his buzzy bald look is for a new film or just a fashion choice.
In June, Farrell spoke to Collider, confirming that he would reprise his role as the Penguin in The Batman Part II and revealing that the sequel was about to start filming: “It’ll be an amazing set to be on. The script, I’ve said before, and you know, I said to you, it’s extraordinary. It really is. Matt is just so brilliant, and he just cares so deeply about the stories he tells. I will fly to London in four or five weeks. I haven’t got much to do on it, but I’ll go in four or five weeks. I’ll be there for a few weeks. I’m so excited to see it as a fan.”
Farrell famously had one of the most extraordinary cinematic transformations for his role as the Penguin. In 2024, he opened up to People at the spin-off series’ New York City premiere, sharing what he thought of the jaw-dropping change: “Do you ever see cats looking at themselves in the mirror? How they recoil, and they just don’t know [it’s them]? It was strange.”
He continued, “It’s not like I ever fully lost sense of myself, but it was a very powerful thing to know yourself in a certain way for 45 years and to see a reflection. And it also kind of made me aware of how much I identified with how I look.”
While his recent new hairstyle (or lack thereof) isn’t as pronounced as his Penguin look, it’s a departure from what fans are used to. That said, it’s not the first time he has shaved his head. Farrell did go partially bald for the first The Batman film. Prosthetic makeup artist Mike Marino said on ‘The Movie Podcast,’ “When the series came around, he was like I’m not shaving my head…because on the movie he shaved his head. He shaved all this off…He had a monk hairdo. And that was only supposed to be a few months.”
Marino added, “He was like, ‘That was really hard for me to be like shaving my head.’ And it wasn’t even like he shaved his head. It was like shaving part of his head. He couldn’t go out anywhere. He looked very interesting. But he’s rocking that look, you know. But like Colin Farrell, you know. It’s just puffy hair and nothing here.”
