PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills home opener at the new Highmark Stadium is just hours away on Thursday night, and local bars and restaurants are preparing for packed crowds.

News10NBC’s Garrett Chan spoke with business owners and fans who say they’re ready to watch the game from their local spots instead of making the trip to Buffalo. Whether it’s the new stadium’s smaller capacity, high ticket prices or because it’s a Thursday night game, fans say they have no problem catching the game from home or at their local bar.

Scott Thyroff of Pittsford Pub and Grille said his restaurant is nearly full for Thursday night. “Looking at the reservation book, I think it’s going to be a bigger turnout. We had a few reservations in the beginning of the week, but over the past 36 to 48 hours, a lot of people have really committed that they want to come in and we’re pretty full for tonight,” said Thyroff.

Bills fans at Pittsford Pub and Grille during lunchtime are looking forward to seeing the energy and new environment through the TV.

One fan said the atmosphere will be electric. “Well, it’ll be rockin for sure. I was at the very first game in the old stadium back in 1973. So I can only imagine what tonight’s like. It’ll be crazy,” said Jeff Stitt.

Another fan said they’re excited to see the new stadium on TV. “I went to one of the later games last season against the Bengals. And as the new stadium was sitting just right across the street, it was really cool to see where Highmark was and what it will be. So I can’t wait to experience it all,” said Anthony Richardson.

For restaurants down at the Cannery in Fairport, Bills season brings out the best for business and they take advantage of the Bills buzz. Tim Parrinello, owner of Country Roads, said game days bring in new customers. “But from a business standpoint, it brings out people, people that may not have come and have seen your business. So it brings a different crowd. And we love the fact that we get to see more people from the community,” Parrinello said.

Omar Garcia, managing partner at Allende Mexican Bar and Grill, said they want to get involved in the Bills excitement. “We’ve been seeing all the bars around us here and it’s a big Bills party town here. So we want to invite, we want to get into it. We want to get involved too. And we want to support the Bills too. So support the fan base so they can come and cheer for the team,” Garcia said.

Thyroff anticipates the first wave of fans to come in after work around 5:30 or 6 p.m. The majority of fans will start filing in around 7:30, looking to find the best seat in the house.

Kickoff between the Bills and Lions is set for 8:15 p.m. on Thursday.
