ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Genesee Co-op Federal Credit Union in Rochester is being impacted by an outage hitting a number of credit unions nationwide.
The core banking provider used by Genesee Co-op and other credit unions, Sharetec, experienced a significant infrastructure failure at the data center that hosts their systems. The issue was caused by equipment damage following a cooling system failure at the facility.
Leaders at Genesee Co-op told News10NBC Investigative Reporter Jennifer Lewke the accounts are safe and secure, but debit cards can only be used to get a limited amount of money at the moment, and members are not able to access mobile and/or online banking.
The Credit Unions say there has been no data breach or unauthorized access to data. This is a service availability issue, not a security incident.
Genesee Co-op says Sharetec is working to get all the core systems back online first, then mobile and online banking. There’s no definitive timetable on when that might be.
