ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WHEC) – You may think Bills Mafia are the most excited to open the new Highmark Stadium, but Buffalo Bills players are also very amped to play in their new building for the first time.
“The lights are bright, Thursday night, everybody’s watching at home and that stadium right there’s gonna be rocking,” said Buffalo Bills defensive end Bradley Chubb.
This is Chubb’s first season with the Bills and Thursday night will be just his second time playing a regular season game in a Buffalo jersey. For Buffalo native Joe Andreessen, it’s a much different, emotionally-tied outlook.
“I don’t know if I got the right words to describe it,” said Andreessen. “Last year was special playing the last season at the old stadium and this one’s gonna be special too.
No matter how short or how long each player has been on this roster, they are all in agreement that Thursday’s atmosphere will be very unique.
“Buffalonians got all day to take off work and prepare themselves and get ready to rock and roll,” said offensive tackle Spencer Brown.
Will the atmosphere be helpful for a Bills win, or could it create too much of a distraction? Perhaps both may be true, but no matter what, everyone is soaking it in – even the other side.
“Enjoy every bit of it,” said Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell. “That’s stuff you never forget. You’re telling your grandkids one day, so enjoy this.”
Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. on Thursday.
